Backstory:
Joel was brought to the shelter on June 2nd 2023 as an “owner surrender” with his mom and 2 sisters from a situation that was getting wildly out of control. A lady had called stating that her neighbour had dogs that constantly ran loose and puppies were being born every few months. She offered to bring in one mom dog and her puppies and get the remaining females spayed.
Joel came in and was very unsure of the scary shelter. He was covered in dirt, feces, urine, and was very underweight.
It has been a couple of months since Joel came to be with us and he has come out of his shell quite a bit! He still gets nervous around new people, but is still such a good little guy. He seldom has accidents inside anymore and we are working at leash walking, as he still tries to eat the leash sometimes. He loves walking with his sister Jill by his side and finds comfort in other dogs, so we think a home with a confident pup will be ideal for him.
Joel has been tested with both dogs and cats and did amazing. He was also tested with men, women, and children and did well other than being scared for the first little bit. He may pee on himself at first if very scared so some accidents in the beginning are to be expected.
Joel’s ideal family would be very patient and loving family who will give him the time he needs to feel comfortable and not rush or force him into things he’s not comfortable with. He loves to run and play, so a yard and lots of playtime would be great for him.
